A video captured the intimate moment when Archbishop Diego Giovanni Ravelli placed a white silk veil over Pope Francis’s face, symbolising respect and tradition. This act is part of the papal funeral rites, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
Document Signing and Sealing
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, signed a document alongside Archbishop Ravelli, which was then sealed and placed beside the Pope’s remains. This formal gesture marked the conclusion of the ceremony.
Pope Francis’s Legacy
Pope Francis led the Catholic Church for 12 years, leaving a lasting legacy. He passed away on April 21, 2025, after a stroke while recovering from pneumonia. The Pope’s global stature drew dignitaries from around the world, with approximately 130 foreign delegations and 200,000 pilgrims gathering in Vatican City to pay their respects.
Burial
After the burial Mass at St Peter’s Square, Pope Francis will be laid to rest at the Basilica of St Mary Major, as per his wishes. The ceremony marked the final chapter in the life of a revered spiritual leader.
