Semenyo, however, chose to stay at the Vitality Stadium and sign a new contract that runs until 2030, reportedly with a £75 million release clause, rather than pursue a move.
The 25-year-old acknowledged in an interview with Sky Sports that he is aware of the ongoing transfer rumours, but he maintains that playing for Bournemouth is still his top priority.
He said to Sky Sports,
I do not give it much thought.
I see the news all the time, and so do you. I try to be in the moment, but I am not unaware. I’m enjoying my football here. All of that disappears if I am not scoring goals. I just concentrate on supporting the team; the future will take care of itself.
When asked why he chose to dedicate his long-term future to the Cherries, Semenyo said that a major contributing factor was his faith in manager Andoni Iraola’s vision.
He clarified,
There was a lot of interest and conversation with the club when a few players left in the summer. However, I was aware that the manager had a unique plan for this season.
With the calibre of our new additions, I thought we could improve on our strong finish from the previous season. I am happy I stayed because I am having a great time.
Semenyo has established himself as one of the league’s most dynamic forwards by starting the current Premier League season in outstanding form, tallying six goals and three assists in ten games.
Semenyo’s focus is currently firmly on helping Bournemouth climb the table and continue their successful run under Iraola, despite the Ghanaian forward’s performances continuing to feed rumours about a possible big-money move.
