According to BBC Sport, Antoine Semenyo, a winger for Bournemouth, has a £65 million release clause in his contract that can be triggered within the first two weeks of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian international signed a new five-year contract at Vitality Stadium on July 1st, despite interest from a number of teams in the summer, including Manchester United and Tottenham.
In order to give Bournemouth enough time to replace their star player, BBC Sport has discovered that his new deal has a £65 million release clause that may be activated during the first two weeks of the winter transfer window.
For Premier League and English Football League (EFL) teams, the winter transfer window begins on Thursday, January 1, 2026, and ends on Monday, February 2, at 19:00 GMT.
This season, Semenyo has been in outstanding form in the Premier League, with three assists and six goals in 11 games for Andoni Iraola’s team.
For the first time in his career, he scored ten goals last season—eleven in the league and thirteen throughout all competitions.
Semenyo, a Londoner, is eligible for Ghana via his father.
Before enrolling in the football program at SGS College in Bristol, which is overseen by former Leeds and Forest Green Rovers manager Dave Hockaday, he was turned down as a child by Arsenal, Spurs, and Millwall.
He was signed by Bristol City in 2017, however before making an impact with the Robins first team in the 2020–21 campaign, he had to spend time on loan at Bath, Newport, and Sunderland.
He moved to Bournemouth for £10 million in January 2023, and he has been getting better ever since.
Bournemouth finished tenth in the previous season because to Semenyo’s goals, but in the summer they sold Illia Zabarnyi, Dean Huijsen, and Milos Kerkez for about £150 million.
Additionally, they were unable to make goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan move from Chelsea permanent; instead, the Spaniard joined Arsenal. However, Semenyo’s retention has been crucial for the team this season.
