Kpandai MP discusses the High Court's ruling on the election rerun
Matthew Nyinadam, the member of parliament for Kpandai, has voiced his disapproval of a High Court ruling mandating a new parliamentary election in his district.
In an interview with GhanaWeb on Monday, November 24, 2025, Nyinadam stated that certain National Democratic Congress (NDC) members had already been hinting at a repeat in Kpandai.
“A week prior to today, the NDC in Kpandai was everywhere discussing a repeat in Kpandai, which made us understand that something had already gone wrong. He said, “They had already stated that there will be a rerun in Kpandai this morning, even before the decision on the social media handles.”
Nyinadam maintained that the ruling is unjust even though he acknowledged the court’s authority.
“We strongly disagree with what we have observed. We have already submitted our appeal to the courts and requested a stay of execution,” he stated.
Nyinadam claimed that supporters of Daniel Nsala Wakpal, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, stormed the coalition centre during the 2024 election, prompting the military and police to step in.
“He organised his followers, transported them in a pickup, and they stormed the coalition centre.” In order to make the proclamation, the police, military, and that specific plan recommended that the EC relocate to the regional office, he said.
Nyinadam claims that irregularities involving differences between the number of people who were confirmed to vote and the actual number of votes cast were reported in 41 police stations.
“Let us say there are 200 persons at the police station where the verification is conducted, and there were only 199 ballots cast at the parliamentary level. He said, “They printed it up as an inequity, which implies that the person may have voted presidential but not parliamentary.”
Until the appellate court makes a different decision, he assured his supporters that he is still the rightful MP for Kpandai.
“Until the appellate court rules otherwise, I would want to inform my people that I remain the MP for Kpandai. This logical conclusion is the reason we are challenging the case. We do not mind a rerun as long as it is a legitimate one. However, we have no idea where this type of rerun is coming from. There should be no fear. He said, “Let us stick together and see what God will accomplish.”
The Kpandai parliamentary election has been ordered to be rerun by the Tamale High Court, with a new poll to be place within 30 days.
