The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Oda Constituency in the Eastern Region was suspended as a result of an alleged audio exchange that surfaced online.
A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who recently defected to the NDC is allegedly heard telling the NDC official on the audio that her decision to join the party was a mistake.
The nearly six-minute recording shows the officer warning the woman, identified as Afia, that her decision to transfer allegiance to the NDC was a bad one.
At a time when the Regional Executive Committee (REC) maintains that the NDC has emerged as one of the most appealing political parties in Africa in recent years, the party revealed in a press release dated January 21, 2026, signed by Jamal Konneh, the Eastern Regional Secretary, that Benjamin’s remarks in the recording run counter to its outreach and expansion efforts.
The Eastern Regional Executive Committee discussed the issue at a virtual meeting on January 21, 2026, and decided to suspend Benjamin immediately.
In order to conduct a comprehensive investigation and make a decision, the committee also submitted the case to the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
According to the statement, “The REC considered the matter at its virtual meeting on January 21, 2026, and decided to suspend you from your position as a Constituency Communications Officer in accordance with Article 48 of the Party’s Constitution and subsequently refer the matter to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for adjudication.”
Benjamin has also been instructed to give the constituency secretary all party property he has.
The party stated that the Regional Disciplinary Committee will provide its conclusions and recommendations to the REC following the suspended officer’s invitation to address the accusations.
