With inflation falling from 23.8% to 5.4% and the cedi rising by 37% in just one year, Ghana has seen an incredible economic recovery. President Mahama credits both divine favour and successful strategies for the achievement.

Ghana’s economic performance during the past year has been praised by President John Dramani Mahama, who credits “the grace of God” for the achievement.
Speaking on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the First Sky Group’s Thanksgiving Service in the Northern Region, the President expressed amazement at how rapidly the nation had stabilised after experiencing a dire economic crisis when his government took office.
I estimated that it would take roughly two years to start seeing a change. But this is how far God has taken us, Ebenezer. We’re all taken aback by how quickly things have progressed.
He pointed out that representatives of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have also expressed shock at Ghana’s success, with the nation now being regarded as an example for other African countries.
He continued,
Ghana is now the World Bank’s and IMF’s poster child. They exclaim, “Don’t you see Ghana?” when they visit other African nations. Take a look at Ghana’s actions
Key economic data were highlighted by President Mahama, who claimed that inflation had dropped from 23.8% to 5.4% in just one year. Additionally, he pointed out that the Ghanaian cedi’s value had significantly increased, rising by 37% during that time.
After years of hardship, the Ghanaian cedi has now stabilised. By God’s grace, this is possible,” he remarked. He continued by saying that Ghana’s primary balance surpassed IMF projections, hitting 2% in 2025 as opposed to the Fund’s objective of 1.5%.
The President expressed gratitude to God for the advancements, stressing that both divine favour and successful policy execution are responsible for the economic successes.
